Gary's Poem
The Reunion
Who in the hell are all these people?
Strangers mostly that's who we are, 30 years on
Faces half known, half remembered, frozen in time
Connect us forever and colour kindly
The time now gone
Yet time can never erase
Who we are, who we were
When those first memories were traced
Is it the ties that bind us?
And keep those memories safe and warm
Or innocence renewed that reminds us
Is it the passage of time?
Or the future that haunts us
And keeps those memories secure
I can cast my mind back and see you all then
So young and innocent, so full of life and expectations
Remember only the good times my friends
The bad times have no place here
No power over us here
Today we laugh and cry
Today the past and future cannot touch us
Who and the hell are all these people?
Friends for life!
I started this poem before the reunion. At that time I did not know
how we would react to each other after so long. Initially I began to
stress out the reunion hence the "Who in the hell are all these
people". But as we went along the Egroups experience became therapy,
connecting us to each other again. So by the end of the poem in
answer to my opening question I was able to quote Sarah's line,
Friends for life!
